Description

Eligibility Guidelines: Please read the overall criteria below and proceed only if your organization meets these guidelines. Due to a high volume of applications, and a limited pool of resources, we cannot fund all organizations that apply. 

  • Must be a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization or local government agency.
  • Limit of one application per agency/legal entity.
  • Funds shall be used solely for the granted purpose or program.
  • Funded activities shall commence ly and expenditures shall cease within one year after receipt.
  • Grant recipients shall acknowledge UWNU in promotional materials and at funded programs/activities; UWNU logos and branding guidelines will be given.
  • Grant recipients shall supply and allow their grant-funded success stories to be shared via UWNU’s social media, webpage, and other print or digital media (to raise funds to support this grant program we must be able to share your success!).
  • Funds MUST NOT; benefit specific individuals or be deposited into/held in an endowment, be used to influence legislation or participate in political campaign activity, be used for religious purposes, be used for conferences, galas, 5K Runs, fundraisers or events, or benefit UWNU or its employees (e.g., gifts, meals, etc.).
  • Funds MAY NOT be used for capital improvements, tenant or leasehold improvements, or any other premises or building maintenance or improvements.
  • The services/program funded by the requested grant must serve residents in Weber, Box Elder, Morgan, and/or Oneida Counties.
  • Up to 10% of granted funds may be allocated to quality management and administration costs.
  • Grant applicants who received 2023 funding will be required to submit a funding report by January 17, 2024.  Grant recipients who do not turn in their grant reports will not be able to apply for funding for 2025. Grant applicants who received 2022 funding and did not submit a grant report in January of 2023 will not be able to apply for 2024 funding.

Proposed Program Funding Guidelines -  United Way of Northern Utah works to lead community-wide efforts to achieve whole community growth. Our strategic work focuses on three areas of impact: Education, Financial Stability, and Health.  Our work as a whole community will be better aligned and achieve greater success as we focus our efforts on common areas of impact; each agency taking accountability for the work they do on a program level and the results they get that affect the population level in the community.  

  • Grant requests for 2024 will need to choose one of the three areas of impact:  Education, Financial Stability, or Health for the proposed program focus.
  • A portion of your grant review score will reflect the alignment of your proposed request with an impact area.
  • Your grant report will include a minimum of 2-3 performance measures showing outcomes defined within the specific area of impact; 
    1. "How much did we do?”  

    2. "How well did we do it?”

    3.  "Is anyone better off?” # and %

Deadline and Key Dates: 

  • Applications are due October 31, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. (neither late submissions nor edits to submissions will be accepted).
  • A review committee composed of UWNU Board Members, business professionals, and community members will review all applications, and submit a grant score and funding recommendation to the final review committee.  Final recommendations will be given to the Board of Directors of UWNU. Applicants will receive written notification of the award decision by December 18, 2023; checks will be mailed or presented to grantees in January of 2024. 

Grant Submission: Please submit your online application by October 31, 2023, at 5:00 p.m.  You will receive an automated email when your completed application is received.  

Funding Available: Funding for the 2024 cycle is not limited to a specific dollar amount, but awards for the 2023 funding cycle ranged from $1,000 to $11,000 per agency/legal entity. View past grant recipients here.

Scoring Criteria: A score will be assigned to each grant section on a scale of 1-5 points with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest based on the following table.

Rating Scale: The Statement of Need, Project Description, Budget, and Evaluation is: 5= Overall excellent with no major weakness 4= Very good or excellent, with perhaps no more than one area requiring attention 3= Good/average in all criteria but weak in others with at least one or more area requiring attention 2= Weak in several areas, but not necessarily absent of some merit in some areas 1= Very weak in almost all areas of the criteria.

  1. Statement of Need - Does the proposal clearly address the identified need?
  2. Is there an identified target population?
  3. Project Description - Does the proposal summary clearly explain what the project is?
  4. Does the proposed project play a relevant role in the community?
  5. Does the proposed project clearly align with and best identify with one of the strategic impact areas of focus? (Education, Financial Stability, or Health)
  6. Does the application clearly list 2-3 performance measures to be tracked?  Defining- How much did we do? How well did we do it? And is anyone better off?  
  7. Budget - Does the proposed budget clearly illustrate the proposal’s needs?
  8. Is the proposed budget reasonable and a responsible use of UWNU funds?
  9. Evaluation - Does the proposal have a clearly stated plan to measure success?
  10. Does the proposal have a well-articulated plan for sustainability?
